President Gordon B. Hinckley, President of the LDS Church just died an hour ago. He was 97 years old. He passed away at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah around 7:00 p.m.

A great, talented human being, an outstanding, strong, charismatic and humble leader who’s done so much for the world and who has positively affected the lives of millions of people worldwide, both LDS and non-LDS through his leadership, charity and example.

He will be succeeded by Thomas S. Monson who will be the new Prophet, Seer & Revelator for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days Saints. A new era begins.

A highly accomplished man. From Wikipedia:

Gordon Bitner Hinckley (June 23, 1910January 27, 2008) was the fifteenth president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from March 12, 1995 until his death.

He was the oldest person to preside over the LDS Church in its history.[1] As president of the LDS Church, he was considered by its members to be a prophet, seer, and revelator. His presidency was noted for the building of new temples and the creation of the Perpetual Education Fund. Hinckley holds the record for dedicating the most LDS Church temples and has dedicated more than half of the current LDS Church temples.[2]

As president of the church, Hinckley was also chairman of the Church Board of Education and Board of Trustees that governs the Church Educational System.[1]
